Lost in The Multiplex

Date: April 2012

Yes, yes, we can smell what The Rock is cooking. This spy pic from the set of Michael Bay's black comedy, Pain and Gain, reveals Dwayne Johnson grilling up some rather unsavoury meats.

iron man movie

The Avengers is currently destroying the foreign box office (and has yet to be released in the US, so imagine how much bigger it's about to get) and the public has never been more excited and eager to follow the exploits of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, so talk has turned to what comes after The Avengers have Assembled.

samsara 01

From the master of photography who brought us Chronos and Baraka, the first teaser trailer for Ron Fricke’s Samsara has been released and once again promises on-screen poetry of the purest kind.

Butch-Cassidy-And-The-Sundance-Kid-36

This week’s double feature takes in a couple of classic movies starring two of Hollywood’s true greats. Paul Newman began his movie career back in 1954 with his debut in The Silver Chalice and went on to star in some truly iconic movies. Cat On A Hot Tin Roof (1958), The Hustler (1961), Hud (1963), Cool Hand Luke (1967), The Color of Money (1986) and Road to Perdition (2002) to name but a few. One of the finest actors of his generation, he oozed effortless and easy charm and his charisma shone through in every part he played.

Avengers-Assemble-Poster-

UK film fans Assemble! Despite sporting the worst film title in recent memory, Avengers Assemble hits our screens this weekend and will do phenomenal business. Genre geeks will fuel the numbers given that both 3D and 2D versions are on offer, but Joss Whedon also lends the pic crossover appeal that will draw filmgoers regardless of whether they’ve seen Thor, Iron Man et al. Whedon’s pic pits our heroic troupe against intergalactic mischief maker Loki who is seemingly intent on taking over the world (now where have I heard that one before?) and as expected explosive havoc reigns. Yet pithy bickering and a razor sharp script ensure that this is superior to much of what has come before.

black dynamite

Scott Sanders' 2009 'blaxploitation' parody Black Dynamite is a wickedly smart and immensely quotable 84 minutes, with Michael Jai White on top form as the titular kung fu vigilante. Adored by genre enthusiasts and comedy fans alike, its low box office return does not reflect the quality of the gags and action on offer as Sanders and co ape the low-budget '70s films that had black audiences flocking to their local cinemas.

piggy-horror-movie-2012

Let’s get something straight; there’s nothing cute or cuddly about this film.

Contrary to expectations conjured up when first reading the title, Piggy is anything but child friendly. The trailer is dark, unforgiving and ultimately violent, depicting a pair of men donning disturbing pig-nose masks before stabbing, beating or otherwise torturing their chosen victims to death, all in the name of revenge.

Like action movies? Like older gentlemen who could still kick your head in? Like posters?

Well, today is your lucky day!

Consider me Lost in the Multiplex's official Django Unchained cheerleader, every scrap of information that I get my hands on becomes the latest verse in a never-ending pep rally for Quentin Tarantino's upcoming spaghetti western.

EW has unveiled two official new images that reveal Jamie Foxx and Christoph Waltz's Django and Dr. King Schultz, respectively, and Leonardo DiCaprio's villanous Calvin Candie.
