When he isn't writing for the prestigious site you currently find yourself reading, Andrew is busy either writing for EatSleepLiveFilm or posting pictures of dogs in hats on Facebook. He fell in love with movies after a double-bill of The Empire Strikes Back & Return of The Jedi at the tender age of four. His favourite film is Goodfellas, his favourite director is Martin Scorsese, his favourite actor is Paul Newman. Caught you off guard there, eh? You were expecting Robert De Niro or something.
News of Adam Driver's front-runner position for the role of Dick Grayson/Nightwing in Batman vs Superman caused quite a stir. This is mostly because people thought Driver, while clearly physically capable an a strong actor, has a weird face. Not even particularly weird, just not superhero handsome. It turns out comic book fandom is not just tirelessly misogynistic, they're also vapid and hateful when it comes to men.
Over the weekend Zack Snyder and Ben Affleck's hetero life partner Kevin Smith presented a Man of Steel Fan Event, which fielded questions on this year's super blockbuster and deftly dodged most questions about the highly anticipated sequel, tentatively titled Batman vs Superman.
As deft as said dodging was, a few interesting bits of information slipped out, not revealing a good deal about the film (I am not entirely convinced this movie has a finalised script yet but, then again, neither does Star Wars) but helping to give shape to the previously formless sequel.
I have high hopes for Disney's latest animated feature, Frozen, it comes from the same team behind the surprisingly great Tangled and seems to feature many qualities that made their revisionist Rapunzel such a big success.
This new clip highlights a few of those qualities, cute and fun characters and 'song & dance' numbers. Many children won't remember this, growing up during an era of Pixar dominance, but Disney movies used to be packed to the rafters with catchy showtunes. The second golden age of the studios animated features saw some of the most iconic musical pieces of the modern age; from Under The Sea to Be Our Guest to A Whole New World to just about anything from The Lion King, these were movies that were as memorable to the ears as the eyes.
Justin Lin is responsible for four out of six Fast & Furious movies, three of those are my top three of the franchise (psst, the other one is Fast & Furious), and it was with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to Lin's strong grasp of action film-making from my favourite action film franchise this year when The Conjuring's James Wan stepped in to replace him for Fast & Furious 7. The big question then remained: What was next for Justin Lin?
