REC 3: Genesis takes place at Clara and Koldo’s wedding, which is all going well until the guests begin to fall victim to the infection that has spread following the events of the previous two films. While the guests are sinking their teeth into each other’s throats, the bride and groom become separated and begin a desperate search for one another.

Although a cameraman has (as ever) filmed the opening events, Paco Plaza, who directs this time without Jaume Balaguero, has distanced himself from the found footage style that defined REC, preferring instead a more conventional cinematographic style. The setting is also completely different as the action takes place outside of the original quarantined building. Instead, the claustrophobia of the previous two films is replaced with a bigger and brighter environment, injecting fresh blood into the franchise.

REC 3 supposedly draws together the plots of the first two films and uncovers some previously hidden information about the origins of the infection, hence all the shots of multiplying cells in the trailer. Other highlights of the trailer include some fine looking zombies, a chainsaw-wielding bride and a glimpse at the return of the climactic monster from the first REC! Overall, we can safely say that this is one threequel definitely worth looking out for!

The trailer can be viewed HERE. REC 3: Genesis is set for UK release in May 2012.
