Anderson Unveils The Master in New Teaser

The Master - Philip Seymour Hoffman

Paul Thomas Anderson has given us our first glimpse of Philip Seymour Hoffman's title character in the latest teaser for The Master.

Backed by the same Johnny Greenwood music as the first clip, this new teaser depicts The Master as a mysterious figure offering guidance to Joaquin Pheonix's drifter.

"Why all the stalking and sneaking," The Master says over footage of Phoenix catching up with a van. "You've wandered from the proper path, haven't you?".

Hoffman, donning his usual fair blonde hair and a bushy moustache, describes himself as "a writer, a doctor, a nuclear physicist, a theoretical philosopher...but above all I am a man. A hopelessly inquisitive man, just like you."

The teaser also gives us a first look at Amy Adams, who plays the wife of The Master and helps him set up a religion known as 'The Cause'.

There's still plenty of mystery around the film, but what is known is that The Master will hit screens in America on October 12th and the UK on November 9th.

Reportedly inspired by Scientology, the film was apparently recently screened to Anderson's friend, Tom Cruise.
