With trailers for Tarantino’s attempt at producing a spaghetti western set in the Deep South (a “Southern” as Tarantino calls it) appearing over the last month, it seems that this is the beginning of a steady drip-feed of content to keep the buzz alive between now and the film’s release.

In Django Unchained, Jamie Foxx will play the title character, a slave freed by Christoph Waltz’s bounty hunter and offered the chance to free his wife from DiCaprio’s opulent villain in exchange for aiding the murder of a ruthless pair of assassins. Whilst the trailers were slightly hit-and-miss, it is almost impossible for Tarantino to make a bad film and so anticipation is high.
Regardless of the film’s quality, the trailers and images so far show that DiCaprio has an absolute ball being evil and it looks like his character could well be the film’s stand-out. With the Weinstein Company releasing Django Unchained slap-bang in the middle of awards season, could we be looking at a potential supporting actor nod?
Django Unchained will be released in January 2013.
