For years now, the decline of film has been continuing, with cinemas converting en masse to the new format and leaving those unwilling to adapt behind in their wake. Fans of the traditional medium have until now been buoyed by the high-profile support of Scorsese and fellow director Christopher Nolan, but it seems that the former has finally decided to modernise.
He was forced to shoot his previous movie Hugo on digital in order to utilise 3D technology, but it was assumed that financial drama The Wolf Of Wall Street would feature Marty’s return to the old format he loves so much. However, his long-term collaborator in the editing room Thelma Schoonmaker recently told Empire magazine:
“It would appear that we’ve lost the battle. I think Marty just feels it’s unfortunately over, and there’s been no bigger champion of film than him.”
From this, we can see that Scorsese is not happy to convert, but feels he has to in order to keep up with the innovation around him.
The Wolf Of Wall Street has an immense cast led by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jean Dujardin. Filming will begin in August.
