Based on the James Patterson bestselling novels, Alex Cross was last seen on the big screen shaped like Morgan Freeman but this new thriller sees Tyler Perry taking over as the titular detective. The film follows a battle between psychologist and homicide detective Cross and a psychopathic serial killer (Matthew Fox) in whom Cross more than meets his match. As the confrontation gets personal, Cross is forced to push his moral and psychological limits to defeat his adversary.
What really piques interest in the film is that its two leads are playing completely against type. Tyler Perry is more famous for his comic cross-dressing antics than his action prowess and Matthew Fox, previously so clean-cut as Jack in Lost, here looks like he could steal the film as the demented serial killer.
Also starring Rachel Nichols, Edward Burns and Jean Reno, Alex Cross will be released on October 19.
