The Lizard Takes Centre Stage… Sort Of, In Amazing Spider-Man Photoshop Disaster

As Marc Webb’s new take on the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man swings into theatres this week, we have been “treated” to an utterly hideous new photo in which Rhys Ifans' Lizard features heavily, along with a series of awful bits of Photoshop work.

Amazing Spider-Man - Lizard Eye PosterOther marketing material for The Amazing Spider-Man has been very good indeed and the film looks to be a very interesting new take on the superhero that Sam Raimi memorably brought to the big screen only a decade ago. However, this new poster is difficult to look at without feeling a powerful urge to vomit.

The Lizard has (perhaps wisely, I feel) been largely absent from the film’s marketing, meaning that the character won’t be seen properly until the film. However, this poster has opted to heavily feature the reptilian eye of Rhys Ifans’ villainous scientist-turned-monster. Now, this does make the film look a bit like they’ve printed the wrong title on a Godzilla poster.

Without a doubt the worst thing about this poster is the “shit, we better put Spider-Man on it” after-thought that is the eye’s innards. Remarkably poor Photoshop work has put Spider-Man in there for no reason other than to irritate. It’s a ridiculously poor decision and one which has turned an irrelevant poster into an utterly awful one.

The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Rhys Ifans. It hits UK cinemas todat.
