Meet More of del Toro's Monster Hunters From Pacific Rim, First Look at Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi

Pacific Rim - Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi - Top Slice

Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim feels like it was pitched to Warner Bros. by my 7-year-old self; giant robots battling giant monsters for the fate of humanity.

To be precise, "The finest fucking monsters ever committed to screen. And the greatest fucking robots ever committed to screen," as del Toro so eloquently put it. That is my jam, right there.

A few weeks back we saw our first look at this sci-fi action epic, with a visual introduction to Idris Elba's curiously named General Stacker Pentecost. Now, thanks to the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, we meet the film's stars, Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) and Rinko Kikuchi (The Brothers Bloom).

Hunnam plays Raleigh Antrobus, a washed-up former Jaeger pilot (that's the name for the giant mech suits used to defend humanity from the Kaiju, not the Red Bull-friendly booze). Hunnam is teamed with Rinko Kikuchi's Mako Mori, an untested trainee.

Pacific Rim is expected to make a splash at Comic Con next weekend, so look forward to even more information and promotional materials in the coming weeks. The smackdown to end all smackdowns will arrive at cinemas in July 2013.
