The film was also classified as 12A, stated as 'containing moderate violence'. As Batman Begins and The Dark Knight ran for 140 minutes and 152 minutes respectively, there was never much doubt that the concluding part of the trilogy would run for anything less than two and a half hours, and the announcement of the official run-time was more of a formality than anything else. For my own part, I'm just glad to own shares in Pepsi and Candy King.
On twitter, not everyone was totally happy with the news, but the vast majority of users seemed to take the news as positive; here's a selection of views straight from the mouth of the beast:
jamesvanosdol The Dark Knight Rises runtime announced as two hours and 44 minutes. Sounds like a chore, as well as an excuse for someone to say "epic."
Isaac Oyer Official runtime of the Dark Knight Rises is 164, longer than The Dark Knight and Batman Begins. Wouldnt have it any other way!!!
Det Ansinn Just learned that the Dark Knight Rises is 164 minutes and 27 seconds long. Given Nolan's direction, it will likely still fly by. #batman
There's also no surprises in the official synopsis - released by Warner Bros. this week - which reads as follows:
It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act.
But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.
The Dent Act, which is referred to, has also been turned into a viral which we covered here along with the latest TV spots, posters and still images from the film, and the identity of the cunning cat burglar probably isn't much of a mystery... well, to us at least. Gotham City on the other hand...
Check back for ongoing coverage right up until the films release on July 20th and beyond!
