Inspired by real-life memoirs, Lawless stars Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf and Jason Clarke as the Bondurant Brothers, notorious bootleggers in Prohibition-era America. The supporting cast is full of heavyweights, including Gary Oldman, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska and Guy Pearce.
Based on this synopsis, the plot sounds pretty great too.
“LAWLESS is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers: bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. In this epic gangster tale, inspired by true-life tales of author Matt Bondurant’s family in his novel “The Wettest County in the World”, the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation’s most notorious crime wave.”
Pretty cool, right? Hardy seems to be on great form and it seems like LaBeouf may finally be able to escape the shadow of the hideously awful Transformers films. But by far, it seems that the star of the movie will be Guy Pearce as the unusual villain of the piece, set out to catch the brothers. Violence, romance and general awesomeness would appear to be the order of the day and, in my book, that’s absolutely fine.
Lawless will be released in the UK on September 7th.
