Speaking to Coming Soon, Marshall insists that any subsequent films in the franchise will follow Jeremy Renner: "we're gonna follow Jeremy's character [Aaron Cross]. Everything else is wide open. That's the great thing about this now," Marshall states, "The table is set to go any direction we want to. But we will, I'm sure, follow Jeremy and see what happens".
Earlier in the year, Marshall was also responsible for teasing us with the possibility of an Aaron Cross/Jason Bourne team-up in the fifth film. Matt Damon has also spoken out again about his return to the franchise, saying that he isn't necessarily finished with it and may still decide to come back to his most famous role. He is, however, still sticking by his condition that he would do another film should it be Paul Greengrass in the director's chair and that, if they found the right story, both would happily return.
With the history of the CIA's Treadstone and its wider implications set to be further explored, it makes sense that Aaron Cross would seek out the project's most famous test subject and then a team-up would be inevitable. If this is the case though, I do feel a little sorry for any of the generic henchmen that come across the pair because they are going to get beaten up something fierce.
Also starring Edward Norton, Rachel Weisz, Scott Glenn and Joan Allen, The Bourne Legacy hits theatres on August 10th.
