It has been announced that in the Kick-Ass follow-up, Balls to the Wall, the Colombian thespian will take on the role of Javier, a bodyguard to Christopher Mintz-Plasse’s Red Mist. It isn’t yet known exactly how big of a presence this will entail and the first film achieved only moderate success at the box office. However, the second installment could, by its very nature, garner a fair degree of attention and this casting announcement should only add to the enjoyment of audiences when it’s released.
Currently shooting before that is the next film by Ridley Scott. The Counselor is also set to star such high-profile names as Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Cameron Diaz and Penélope Cruz. Although Leguizamo may get lost in the [extremely attractive] shuffle, it can only be a boon to be part of a production with such a strong director and recognisable headliners. His role in the film hopefully won’t be as diminutive as implied by its description: low-level drug dealer.
There is also the second pilot of Kings of Van Nuys (the U.S. adaptation of Only Fools and Horses) that is being developed. Leguizamo’s casting as the Del Boy character came earlier this year and if the series is picked up it will be another success on the actor’s already versatile résumé. Fans of the original series might consider that a very big “if.”
