Lincoln - Daniel Day-Lewis First Look - Top Slice

Daniel Day-Lewis looks so modest and calm when accepting awards, but he wins them so often I assume it's easy to feel relaxed in that environment. The Daniel Day-Lewis you see on film always seems like an enigma, how can such a mild-mannered fellow create such a dominant screen presence?

That conundrum continues with this first look at Day-Lewis in character as the lead of Steven Spielberg's long-awaited Presidential biopic on Abraham Lincoln, succinctly titled Lincoln.

I cannot say with any authority, having never met the real Lincoln, but I have to say Day-Lewis looks the part. He has a knack for complete physical transformations without even requiring prosthetic additions and you can be sure the performance itself will be so convincing that you will want to nominate Day-Lewis for POTUS when leaving the cinema.

Spielberg confirms as much in his interview with Entertainment Weekly (who premiered the photo today), saying Day-Lewis manages to convey the "intangible, pensive quality that made [Lincoln] a great leader."

Lincoln will preside over US cinemas this November before taking a diplomatic tour of the UK in January. For more word on what is sure to be one of the big guns of the awards season, go to EW.com.

He fell in love with movies after a double-bill of The Empire Strikes Back & Return of The Jedi at the tender age of four. His favourite film is Goodfellas, his favourite director is Martin Scorsese, his favourite actor is Paul Newman. Caught you off guard there, eh? You were expecting Robert De Niro or something.
