Lost in The Multiplex

Amazing Spider-Man, Good Images

02 Aug

I should preface this by noting these are not new images, if you have been remotely interested in the development of the Spider-Man reboot you have already seen these images posted at Entertainment Weekly. Now you can see them again in a higher definition. Which is nice.

I like what I see. Garfield has a wiry quality that reminds me of the original Spider-Man comics and we all know the guy is a talented actor, so the performance side of things is not a concern. Yet there is a backlash mounting against this movie, people seem offended at the notion that someone other than Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire could make a Spider-Man movie. I imagine those people must be furious at all the Batman movies that came out after 1992 (unless they are even older, in that case they have lived in a state of perpetual rage since 1966).

Suddenly we have people questioning the realism of a Spider-Man movie, scrutinizing the likelihood of a high school student creating that costume or building mechanical web-shooters (they should have a battle royale with the people angry that the mechanical web-shooters were missing from Raimi's movies), but as the old proverb goes: Haters gonna hate.

Enjoy the images, or don't, but let's wait until the movie is actually in cinemas before we start declaring this movie the worst thing since Disco Tobey Maguire. Check out the images at Collider here, true believers.

When he isn't writing for the prestigious site you currently find yourself reading, Andrew is busy either writing for EatSleepLiveFilm or posting pictures of dogs in hats on Facebook. He fell in love with movies after a double-bill of The Empire Strikes Back & Return of The Jedi at the tender age of four. His favourite film is Goodfellas, his favourite director is Martin Scorsese, his favourite actor is Paul Newman. Caught you off guard there, eh? You were expecting Robert De Niro or something.
