despicable-me-2 rocket-shark topslice

Despicable Me 2 may have found itself its own sub-category in films that feature a grenade-wielding superchunk riding atop a shark decked-out with rockets, from what appears to be an active volcano.

Getting us in the party spirit, ready for the release of Monsters University, is the upbeat and a little crazy looking, trailer. We see all our favourite animated monsters in a different light in this prequel, with music playing an important part of the college feel of the film, according to director Dan Scanlon. With the trailer featuring new music from Axwell and Sebastian from Swedish House Mafia, it certainly will get us dancing alongside a younger Mike and Sulley.

With The Incredibles becoming the highest selling DVD in 2005 (17.38 million copies), a sequel must have been in everyone's minds from the beginning. Brad Bird, the film's director, expressed an interest to do an Incredibles 2 back in 2007 but his fear of not living up to expectations held him back. Bird wanted a sequel that paralleled the likes of Toy Story 2.

A film that nobody wants to see (apart from perhaps your 5-year-old cousin who has their own iPad, naturally), the Angry Birds Movie has been officially confirmed by Sony, who have acquired the distribution rights to the movie-version of the hugely successful mobile game. Rovio, the developers of the game, will be financing, developing and producing the movie themselves.

You would think that two months before the release of a film that everything would be tied up and might at most just need some tinkering before it's sent out to cinemas.

Visualise this: Breaking Bad's Heisenberg joins the latest incarnation of Hannibal Lecter and Matt Lucas' bizarre twin from Bridesmaids in a film wherein they play animated martial-arts characters defending the honour of a big, fat Panda.

Disney-Pixar has this week confirmed that they are working on a sequel to the immensely popular Finding Nemo and it shall be entitled, Finding Dory.

Beautiful. Compelling. Confusing. These are some of the best ways to describe 009 Re: Cyborg. Constructed from the building blocks of Shotaro Ishinomori's renowned manga, the film features some of the most impressive animation in the 3D medium seen since Avatar. It's just a shame that the story couldn't stand up to the same high quality.

One of the biggest challenges facing those who choose to translate an immensely successful book onto the screen is that of being faithful to the tale’s redeeming features, especially when it is a children’s story. Those films that have achieved this goal have been rewarded accordingly; Raymond Brigg’s “The Snowman” has enjoyed tremendous longevity over the past twenty years and is as popular as ever. A more recent entry into this category, “The Gruffalo” is proving just as popular, and it’s no coincidence that it is also written by the author of “Room on the Broom,” Julia Donaldson.

wreck-it-ralph felix-game topslice

Wreck-It Ralph succeeded where many potential franchise-starters fail, it successfully created an interesting and unique universe with clearly established rules and only scraped the surface of its potential. This left audience members like me satisfied but still eager to return for more.

The possibilities Wreck-It Ralph's world opens are seemingly endless and original director, Rich Moore, discussed some of the ideas he would like to explore in a sequel during a chat with Hypable.
