A stunning new poster for Catching Fire, the second installment of The Hunger Games series, has been released by Lionsgate. It depicts a very different Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) to the previous film. Katniss is standing on top of a mountain, holding her signature bow and arrow with the mocking jay cleverly disguised in the clouds within the background. I'm sure everyone would agree, it's a pretty powerful image, promising a riveting film to come.
If you haven't seen director Jeff Nichols' Shotgun Stories, Take Shelter and Mud (out now), then for the love of Zod, get to it. Not only are they the most startling and accomplished trio of debut films in recent memory, they also feature this summers Man of Steel baddie, Michael Shannon.

Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino has tweeted about his involvement in the new instalment of the Planet of the Apes series. Sharing a picture of a monkey dressed up as a composer, he confesses that he will be recording the score for next year's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Okay, Star Wars Episode VII is due in cinemas in a couple of years, and the buzz around it is already positive enough. But the latest news from Lucasfilm brings even more cause for rejoicing.

I’m going to preface this by stating that, for the record I am a modest Star Trek fan. That is not an obsessive Trekker but enough to know that ‘Trekkie’ is a pejorative term (at least until progressive, third wave Trekkies reclaim it). I’ve seen pretty much every show and watched all the films. When I was ten I even went to a Star Trek convention and listened to William Shatner burble on about English Muffins for an hour.
Bernard Cribbins is a beat bobby daydreaming of Spanish hols, when he's bopped on the noggin by jewellery store robbers. Foiled in pursuit, he nips into a handy police box. Only it's not a police box, it's the Tardis. Upgraded from its last outing, there's now smooth metal panels and plush seats. Still got the Doctor and little Susan from last time, but the blonde has been swapped for a brunette, Barbara, played by Jill Curzon. Bernard's head injury kicks in and he faints. The Doc, heedless of butterflies and their effects, whisks the unconscious Bernard 200 years into the future.
The first big screen outing for the Doctor and his legendary arch enemies sees a loveably eccentric Peter Cushing having a blast with his performance as the titular time traveller, as he takes his Granddaughters Susan and Barbara and fellow companion Ian on a thrilling trip into time and space, winding up on the planet of the Daleks. Based on the second Doctor Who TV story, the film took the yarn to a new level of chaos and action, far eclipsing what was possible on the meagre TV budget.
